The internet can be an invaluable place to get information but, as we all know, it can also be full of terrible advice and even outright lies. In my case, almost all of the dogs I work with are what I would consider extreme as far as unwanted behaviors are concerned. Every single time my clients tell me about something they tried that they saw on the internet or Animal Planet, it invariably made their dog worse.
Every single dog is different and can react differently to certain rewards and corrections. What I do takes your dog's entire routine and home environment into consideration. Simply trying a couple of tricks will never be able to do what holistically healing your dog does.
You will never see specific methods or techniques on this page as I don't want you trying them on your dog. They might do the opposite of what was intended. Be cautious of anyone who makes blanket statements like 21 days is the adjustment period for dogs in a new home or giving corrections to an aggressive dog makes them more aggressive. Neither of these is always true.
I have had so many clients tell me that they have tried ridiculous techniques on their dogs out of desperation because someone who presented themselves as an authority on dog training told them to online. There is no shortage of "experts" on the internet, and some of them are extremely good at marketing themselves as such.
I have had clients tell me that they were instructed to turn their back on their dog when he jumped. Congratulations, you just submitted to your dog. Good luck getting him to respect your authority. Others have told me that they have spent money on elaborate harnesses that were supposed to stop pulling. There are even harnesses at almost every pet store that claim to stop pulling completely. If that were true of any device, I would be out of a job.
Lucky for me, there is absolutely no piece of equipment that will magically stop every dog in the world from pulling and there is no one or two tricks you can learn online to stop your dog's unwanted behaviors. Real change takes work and once you're ready, hire an outstanding dog behaviorist in your area and start living your best life!
